Ways In Which COVID-19 Has Changed The Way We Work

Working From Home

Many businesses have adapted their way of working to keep workers safe. This has included implementing working from home. This has allowed people to do their job from the comfort of their own home and minimising their risk of catching COVID-19. Where possible, companies offered their workers equipment such as laptops, headsets etc. in order to make working from home possible.

Now, since restrictions are easing week by week, many companies offer their employees a hybrid working plan. Which may consist of working in office half of the week, and at home the rest of the week.

Flexible Working

Now since working from home has been possible, it has allowed employees more flexibility around their work to suit their lifestyle. This may include childcare for example. The pandemic has given employers the chance to see how work is impacted whilst not being in-office or in-person. For a large majority of companies, work has not been affected at all or in. some cases have even improved. Employers have been able to offer employees a flexible working week where work is not impacted and staff are happier.

Taking Advantage Of Technology

From children, university students, workers and the elderly, everyone has had to adapt to using the internet and technology more than ever before. Especially in 2020, the world became more digital than it ever had been, impacted on people’s daily lives all around the world. Technology has made it possible to continue with work and studies and communication with loved ones. Every generation has taken advantage of the wonders of tablets and computers to continue with their daily tasks.

Communication And Social Anxiety

With the pandemic, there have been some negative impacts, especially on mental health. With everyone moving online and face-to-face communication decreasing, people often felt that during their working hours their social anxiety and feelings of isolation increase massively. This is understandable, as people spent all day, everyday indoors and this did not change when it came to working their 9-5. The pandemic had taken away the chance to speak to new people, engage with our favourite colleagues over a coffee and see our new teammates in person. It is no secret that mental health plummeted during 2020-2021, and is still affected in 2022.
